Christine Rasmussen
STATEMENT

I paint about things I can’t express in words. My paintings are coded emotions with narratives born out of process.

I love paint. I love it’s messiness and malleability, it’s durability and emotiveness.

The act of painting is therapeutic. It calms me. It centers me. I can get lost in it for endless hours (and have). It is the one activity that is solely mine.

I paint to understand and communicate with other paintings I have seen. Paintings move me in a way other art forms don’t. I enjoy the visceral-ness, the grittiness, the endless range of techniques possible.

The thrill of witnessing other people’s reactions and listening to their interpretations of my work makes me want to continue sharing a part of myself that can be experienced in no other way. There is an adrenaline rush associated with this vulnerability and intimacy.
